  2. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak brought cheer to many elderly people on Monday with two announcements he made at a luncheon meeting with about 1,500 old folks.

    There are all 48 old folk’s homes under the auspices of the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

    “Elderly people make so many commitments for creating a better future for their children in their life time. Therefore, children should not neglect their parents willfully. It is their duty and responsibility to provide care and look into the needs of their parents.

    Yes “it is the responsibility of the nation to take care of the increasing elderly
    Population”.

    “Our government has taken measures to provide shelter and care to destitute elders who are without children or who have been abandoned by their children”.

    May the ministry taken steps to enact legislation to protect the rights of elders, establishment of a separate secretariat for elders, implement numerous programmers to enhance the living conditions of elders, to face the challenges posed by rapidly aging population.

    Moreover, whether the government of Malaysia to consider “the Maintenance of Parents Act” is needed for the elderly age people here in our nation;
